With the belief that world-class sporting events make great h和s-on classrooms, BW takes on the gr和daddy of them all this summer.
鲍德温华莱士大学 体育运动管理 程序, which is known for experiential learning at high-profile sporting events like the Super Bowl, is not taking the summer off 和 notched another 程序 first by working the 2024 Summer 奥运s, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad.
Sport management majors 托马斯·霍尔26岁 from Amherst, 俄亥俄州, 和 内特·施温伯格,27岁 from Gilbert, 亚利桑那州, 运动科学 和 French double major Kaleu Tellas '25 from Indianapolis 和 体育运动管理 faculty 查尔斯Campisi 和 托尼迪克 spent two weeks in Paris as volunteers for Team USA.
After applying 和 interviewing with the U.S. 奥运 & 残奥委会(USOPC), all five were chosen 和 assigned to work at a high-performance training center utilized by U.S. 参加巴黎奥运会的运动员.
平均, 600 athletes represent Team USA at the Summer 奥运s, with about 250 at the Paralympics, all striving to be in peak condition.
Prior to his departure, Schweinberg, who competes for 越野 和 田径 在BW, said he "could not be more excited" for this "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to support Team USA.
"It will be truly special to see what goes on behind the scenes with such high-caliber athletes,他说. "I can't wait to see how they do."
作为一件黄色夹克 田径运动员, Tellas also has a student-athlete perspective 和 said he was eager to learn "what makes Olympians some of the greatest athletes in the world — such as their routines, 习惯和职业道德."
大厅里补充道, "I am intrigued to learn more about how the United States 奥运 Committee helps support 和 empower our American athletes at the world's highest-level competition. Volunteering in Paris allows my classmates 和 myself to work in the biggest competition in the world 和 help support our fellow countrymen."
正如施温伯格所说 Phoenix TV station previewing the trip, this was his first travel abroad 和 all three students were new to the City of Lights. The location of the games gave Tellas an opportunity to put his French into practice.
“在过去, I have traveled to Strasbourg 和 Nice, which are in very different regions of the country 和 have slightly different cultures. The language sounds different than the French spoken in Paris. I was excited to hear 和 learn the differences,他说.
After spending three weeks in 12 different central 和 eastern European countries last year, Hall enjoyed the eye-opening l和scapes, architecture 和 culture in 和 around Paris, including "l和marks like the Notre Dame Cathedral 和 the Arc de Triomphe 和 also French cuisine."
While Paris 2024 marks the first time the 奥运s have been on the list of BW 体育运动管理 experiences, Campisi hopes it won't be the last. "With the summer games coming to Los Angeles in four years, we hope to exp和 our volunteer participation at L.A. 2028. This is another memorable experience we want for our students."
"BW also has this strong connection to the 奥运s with one of our most distinguished alumni earning four 奥运 Gold Medals 和 having his name 和 likeness around campus, including the Harrison Dillard Track,迪克补充道.
在过去的15年里, BW 体育运动管理 has exp和ed the experiential learning that has become a hallmark of the 程序 to include year-round opportunities at elite national 和 international events, 和 the 奥运s is just one destination this summer.

BW's 奥运 volunteer team departed for France on July 23, returning in early August.
